LYDIA DARRAH

A new thing for me, finding the space and time to be absorbed in painting and drawing. Too early to be settled on a style, or even fixed area of interest or medium, but I have been focusing on architecture that ‘lifts the spirits’, using large scale and strong, relaxed line to express an emotional response.

During Lockdown, with horizons limited, my garden and family have become the subject. Simple line drawings and loose figure drawings, sometimes with a wash of colour. I like the familiarity of the shapes in family portraits, and the friendly, domestic scenarios and surroundings.

The juxtaposition in nature of chaos, on a large scale, and symmetry when observed closely, is also an interest.
